Book recommendation

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline.

I grew up in the '80s, and I'm very much an '80s geek.  I'm proud of it.  I've been made fun of on Facebook because of it.  And I don't care.  Yes.  I spent hours in front of the TV on Saturday mornings watching cartoons.  Yes.  I played Dungeons and Dragons.  Yes.  I'm a fan of the original Highlander, although, even back then, I thought Connor MacLeod was horribly miscast.  I'm not a fan of remakes, but I'd support this one, if only to get an actual Scot in the role.

Which is why I'm loving this book.  I'm only halfway through it, and I've already lost count of the '80s references.  It's a fun story, plain and simple, and if you read it, I'm sure you'll join me in trying to figure out how the hell they're going to make a movie out of it.  I'd hate to be the guy responsible for securing the rights to everything mentioned in the book.

(Uh, that was my three month old, who is sitting on my lap as I'm writing this, trying to get in on the blogging action.  He just mashed his hands on the keyboard.)

Anyway, that's my book recommendation for the day.

Later, folks!

  1. I'm in! I just read the description on Amazon and it sounds perfect for me! I was 17 in 1984 and I'm a massive geek so what's not to like?

BTW, "L" is turning out to be quite the typist! Tell him to keep it up and he'll have his own blog soon.

Oh, and a little tip... you should post a link to the book or stick a photo of the cover in the body of your post just so people can see what it looks like without leaving your blog. Plus it's pretty!

  2. Got the audiobook on the weekend and it's making my bus ride a little less hellish. My head nearly exploded when he mentioned Family Ties! Thanks for recommending it, Marc. Added bonus: Wil Wheaton narrates!
