Another quality reader reaction from Wattpad
"I was in English class on the laptops and I was checking
What's Hot and that popped up and after finishing it, I was like Noo!!!
The class looked at me like I was psycho."
:)
Life's little surprises
So it turns out that I've inadvertently written a piece of YA fiction. I've been plugging, ad nauseum -- my apologies -- this short story on Wattpad. When I wrote it, I didn't write it for any particular demographic. I wrote it, like always, because I liked the idea, and I wanted to see what happened next. After getting rejected by a few magazines, and not having the time to read all of these magazines to get a sense of their readership, I decided to hand it over to the interwebs and see what kind of audience finds it. And, to my surprise, its been embraced by the YA community.
Their comments have been awesome. Thank you, interwebs.

Random thought
It's early. I'm up feeding the boy. My head is fuzzy. The random thoughts are zipping about my tired brain like little synaptic fireflies. So I thought I'd catch one and put it to good use by turning it into a blog post.
Today's random thought: The McDLT. You left my life too soon. One side cold. One side hot. Both sides awesome.

My rant for the day
I read the blogs of a couple of very successful authors who shall remain nameless, and I've noticed something that is driving me absolutely nuts. These guys, these very successful guys, are living the dream and what are they doing? They're bitching about it! "I have too many conventions to go to. Too many functions where I have to sit at a table and have hundreds of people come up and tell me they love my work."
I wonder if they remember the lean years? I wonder if they remember getting up early to write before heading off to the day job, or staying up late after the baby is put to bed?
Drives. Me. Nuts!!!
Rant over.

Book recommendation
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline.
I grew up in the '80s, and I'm very much an '80s geek. I'm proud of it. I've been made fun of on Facebook because of it. And I don't care. Yes. I spent hours in front of the TV on Saturday mornings watching cartoons. Yes. I played Dungeons and Dragons. Yes. I'm a fan of the original Highlander, although, even back then, I thought Connor MacLeod was horribly miscast. I'm not a fan of remakes, but I'd support this one, if only to get an actual Scot in the role.
Which is why I'm loving this book. I'm only halfway through it, and I've already lost count of the '80s references. It's a fun story, plain and simple, and if you read it, I'm sure you'll join me in trying to figure out how the hell they're going to make a movie out of it. I'd hate to be the guy responsible for securing the rights to everything mentioned in the book.

(Uh, that was my three month old, who is sitting on my lap as I'm writing this, trying to get in on the blogging action. He just mashed his hands on the keyboard.)
Anyway, that's my book recommendation for the day.
Later, folks!

New short story up on Wattpad
http://www.wattpad.com/2376157-w-u-m-e
A woman fights the system in a future where corporations breed their own consumers.
I'm new to Wattpad, and I invite you to check out my short story. I think this might evolve into a continuing series. I've been busy writing a novel, but lately I've been wondering what happens next in the world of W.U.M.E. Once the novel is finished, I might dive back in and take a look around.
Hope you like it. Let me know what you think, and thanks for reading.
Marc
